Physical activity recognition via insole pressure

Use of sensorized medical devices is growing steadily, making it possible to remotely and constantly monitor a patient’s health.
A system of sensors, actuators and other mobile communication devices, known as the Internet of Things for Medical Devices (IoT-MD), is revolutionising how the health sector operates.
The IoT-MD offers an environment in which the patient’s vital signs are transmitted by medical devices, via a “gateway” on secure cloud platforms where the data are archived, aggregated and analysed.
It helps store the data of millions of patients and to perform real-time analyses, promoting an evidence-based system of medicine.

General objectives
  • Improve quality of life in areas such as rehabilitation, physical fitness, improving balance control
  • Provide useful data to support older people and those with cognitive disorders
  • Support diagnosis of chronic or neurological conditions
Research objective

Develop a physical activity recognition method that acquires data from insoles equipped with pressure sensors.
